R.I.P John Berger

One of Art’s most iconoclastic figures has died this year. John Berger. John Berger wrote the book, ‘Ways of Seeing’ and created a TV show of the same name.

Mr. Berger helped bring 20th-century theories of visual culture and art — including the work of Walter Benjamin — to a wider audience. Ways of Seeing was also a BBC four-part television series that introduced his ideas and writing to a wider public. The book is still taught in schools around the world.

Watch the series on youtube, starting with episode 1

continue on with episodes 2, 3, and 4

I planned on using some of his ideas in my photography classes in 2017, as part of my forward planning, it’s a pity he is no longer around.

RIP Mr. Berger.
