Bill Henson Quote

One of the millennial gifts of art is that it sends people off on their own journey because there’s no correct way of looking at a photograph, just like there’s no correct way to listen to Mozart. All photography is evidence of something but you also have to go beyond that prescriptive thing you have to suggest things, you have to animate the imagination because its only through suggesting you can introduce uncertainty-making shadows. It’s what goes missing in the shadow that makes people wonder what’s happening? It’s about creating more space in the picture. If it animates them, causes them to go off on their own tangent, that’s the most you can hope for and if it absorbs you then it becomes your own image in a way.
